the corsair psu includes two distinct slots for the card, i've used the 1080 for around two years and it functioned properly until i made the update.

Are you sure secure boot is activated? For example, by checking system information with msinfo32.

i think there is an issue with the card. so i am going to send it somewhere to get repaired. i cant see what else it could be.

Security boot isn't essential for video output, yet it verifies the system is in GPT - UEFI mode.
