My RX 590 began experiencing issues today. After connecting my displayport cable, the monitor displayed random lines on the screen and would sometimes turn off and back on. The issue resolved when I changed the refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz. Removing and then reinstalling the AMD drivers fixed it, but after redownloading them the problem returned.
Check to be sure you don't have vertical synchronization or g-sync or some other stabilization enabled. This caps FPS at 60 or so to eliminate artifacts and tearing. Otherwise, you may have the incorrect driver for your card. I have seen issues where someone had an OC card and wasn't aware of it, or vice versa, and the drivers for the standard model caused problems.
This occurs regardless of whether I'm playing or not, though it's more frequent in-game. It also appears with freesync both when enabled and disabled. These drivers have functioned for the past two and a half years since I acquired my GPU, only beginning to cause issues recently. I don't have an overclocked GPU.
Two and a half years... What are your temps like? Could be acting up due to overheating, or have heat related damage. You can change the thermal pads and paste as a cheap means of determining this. It may ultimately need repair, but this is a good early check if nothing else is obvious.
My 6900xt is running smoothly, but the AMD drivers keep causing problems. I’m stuck downloading my PC to resolve the issue, and the AMD Adrenalin software has been unreliable for a while.
Have you experimented with another DP cable? It's often that straightforward.
