Hello. Yesterday I assembled a PC but encountered problems with the front USB 2.0 connection. When the front USB 2.0 header is connected, none of the front ports function properly and if I power on the system while something is attached, it crashes and displays a black screen with a white line at the top left. If I leave the front USB 2.0 header unplugged, the USB 3.0 ports work without issue but the USB 2.0 port remains non-functional. I'm using the GIGABYTE B450M DS3H WIFI motherboard. I've tried contacting Gigabyte, but their live chat has been very slow and I haven't received a reply to my ticket for a week now. Anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong?

Ensure the cable and plug are completely clean. Also, inspect the small motherboard for any connections; a short might exist there. If that doesn’t work, test with a SATA-powered USB 2 adapter to eliminate other causes.

I'll review whether the cables have a short circuit. The phrase refers to testing a SATA-powered USB 2.0 connector, which is a device used to connect storage devices like hard drives or SSDs via a USB interface.

I planned to attempt it later, yet one might assume the motherboard comes with the newest BIOS.

No problem, though it usually comes with a BIOS that supports the USB controller. Still, it’s a smart move to upgrade the BIOS to the newest release.

It's unlikely the board was recently used or updated. It might have been kept in storage for years, possibly even before the latest models were released, meaning any changes would have happened long ago.

Yes, you have a multimeter ready for testing the cable and connector on the motherboard.
