Issues with FPS drops and slow gameplay in Fortnite
Hey everyone, I'm facing some serious stuttering while playing Fortnite. It's the only game causing this issue, even though my hardware looks solid. My setup includes an RTX 3090, a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB of 6000Mhz RAM, and I've installed Fortnite on the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB Games. It runs smoothly on BF2042 and Warzone, but Fortnite keeps stuttering and dropping FPS as low as 30 at times. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem?
You have to show some proof of what's going on exactly. Maybe record a video with a frametime graph. But I would guess that maybe you have some background process on while playing Fortnite that you don't have on when you're playing other games. This includes anything from bloatware, to recording software, or youtube. Other than that, try a clean driver installation with DDU and also reinstall your game.
I'll send you the video clips or screenshots as soon as I return from work.
Settings? Fortnite in UE5 has always been a bit of a rough ride, particularly with high latency RAM. The general advice is to aim for lower CL numbers—typically C30 or C28 works well unless you're using very loose secondary timings. Tightening the RAM settings completely eliminated stuttering for me, but my experience mainly involves DDR4, so I can't give a detailed explanation on optimal values, especially for tRRD (both tRRDS and tRRDL) and tFAW, which have the biggest effect. Plus, DDR5 is still in its early stages, meaning not everyone has fully optimized it yet.
Here are all in-game options. It looks like a few unusual settings might be present, but they should function correctly now.
