I’d like to send my files from my desktop to my local devices using the modem (until I can get a NAS device). The issue is that after setting it up, the Xbox (VLC app) keeps showing this error. I used to have it working but now only wanted to use it with my new desktop since the old one was lost. I’ve shared the folder and made the computer discoverable, but now I’m just trying to find a solution.

If you're attempting to stream video on the Xbox from your PC, I could recommend Plex. Set up the server app on your PC and connect it to the video folders. Then install the client app on the Xbox. Plex is free but lacks some features. It would be simpler than the approach you're currently using.
