Issues with Far Cry 1 and Windows 11
I'm facing problems installing Far Cry 1, original CD version. After installation, I encounter two issues: either a login prompt with admin rights appears, or the desktop shortcut doesn't work at all. I only have one account, which is a local admin account. I've checked all compatibility options from Windows 95 to Windows 8 without any changes. I installed the game on two different drives and disabled antivirus without success. I attempted to register the game but the "register now" button doesn't function. Someone mentioned needing the secdrv.sys driver, but when I tried to enable it in the command prompt it says it can't be loaded.
Does there exist a specific procedure for handling this issue? I retrieved patch 1.4 and the game remains unresponsive. Should I check if any steps are required during the installation phase?
The patch should handle everything automatically if it can locate the game files, provided it ran without warnings—it succeeded.
Have you tried right-clicking the main game executable and running it with admin privileges?
It also advises logging in as an administrator.
Additionally, ensure Visual C++ 7.10 is installed or that at least two files named msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll are present in the same directory as the game .exe.
That's right, secdrv.sys is a safeDisc DRM solution that isn't officially supported by Microsoft anymore due to security concerns. You might be able to use a NOCD/DVD crack for your own risk, or obtain a copy from Uplay/Steam. On GOG it's currently on sale.
The patch installed properly, and the location matched where the game is set up.
I confirmed by right-clicking and running it with admin privileges. Also, I verified the compatibility settings under the properties.
I'll review the files you referenced.
I didn't locate anything related to msv or visual in the game folder. Would visual version 7.10 be present there, or is it a separate item? If it's different, what should I do to verify its location?
After checking, I discovered a method to activate it via the command prompt, though it didn't start properly. I think it would be easier to repurchase it now since I already have the game. This might not be connected to my issue. During installation, the 20-digit key wasn't requested.
