I attempt to play League of Legends and each time I reach the loading screen just before the game begins, the screen turns black and a message appears saying "A directX error has occurred and league cannot start. Please ensure your video card has the latest updates from your manufacturer (Nvidia). I understand this isn't directly related to our site's purpose, but since some people have experience with drivers and similar issues, what could it be? I have all the latest updates from Nvidia, and in fact, that's likely why this happened... Yesterday I played a game and got only 12 frames per second. After downloading the GPU update, I couldn't start the game anymore..."

You're asking about the card you're playing.

Consider also a directx reinstall. It's not as clear where to find it, but it can be downloaded. If you play other Steam titles, its installer might appear as an update on the first run.
