Hi everyone, I recently bought a new AVR, the Denon x1700h, but I'm facing some issues with sound and video connections. My setup includes a PC linked to an LG C1 using a 10-meter optical HDMI 2.1 cable. The LG is connected via a standard HDMI 2.1 Ethernet cable to the eArc port (HDMI port 2) on the AVR. The problem is, I'm not getting any audio from the TV to the AVR, and video output through the eARC port isn't working either. To view video, I need to connect the eArc port on my AVR to a non-eARC port on my TV. I've tried several steps: turned eArc on, selected "Passthrough" on the TV, chose eARC as audio output, enabled control mode, swapped cables, set AVR as audio source, and activated CEC. I even tested streaming YouTube videos to confirm it wasn't my PC. Despite this, no sound appears. The TV indicates HDMI 2 is available, but video still doesn't come through. I can power on/off the AVR using the TV remote, which works fine with optical input, yet I want eARC functionality for its price. All guides and the manual suggest it should be straightforward via eARC. It seems there might be an issue that isn't clear from what I've tried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought an LG TV last year and faced the same problem again. No action I took made eARC function properly. Eventually, I returned it and got a Samsung model that worked perfectly. I understand this isn’t the solution you were looking for, but I believe LG’s eARC setup is quite poor and only supports a limited number of configurations.

It's concerning to hear. These are both quite new gadgets, so it should function properly. I still have roughly a year of warranty remaining on the TV, which means I could probably arrange for a technician to inspect it if needed.

It might be worth trying, though I suspect it could be a software problem. If newer TVs automatically update themselves, then a technician likely won't be able to help.

I think things might not work out as planned. While swapping in an AVR could help, the Denon model seems well-suited for its price range. I’m curious if connecting my PC directly to the AVR and then to the TV would provide a similar surround sound experience—though I’m unsure about Dolby encoding. A longer HDMI 2.1 cable might be needed, but it could be more affordable than replacing the TV or AVR.

The issue isn't related to the different AVR models. My Onkyo didn't work either, and using an arc-to-phono adapter also failed with the TV. It seems the problem is with the LG device itself. Since I'm not very familiar with audio settings, following that method would likely prevent me from adjusting volume via the remote.

Because eARC isn't functioning, I'd lose that feature. It's a minor cost compared to replacing the TV or AVR. I'm going to reach out to LG and Denon support to try and understand the issue better.
