Issues with DDR5 memory performance
Issues with DDR5 memory performance
I can purchase one 16GB stick for 20€ less than two 8GB sticks. (Kingston DDR5 Fury RGB 6000MHz CL40) I might run it in single-channel mode for several months (sorry, God). Once I have enough funds, I’d like to buy another 16GB stick. I’m asking this because the claims about 8GB sticks are questionable, so let me know if this makes sense.
I favor using one 16GB stick with DDR5 over two 8GB units because a single 16GB offers the chance to switch to a dual-channel configuration. The smaller sticks don’t provide the full benefit of 16GB and limit bandwidth significantly.
Still, I believe if you can't get a proper 2x16GB DDR5 at a fast speed (like 5600MHz+), it’s hard to justify using DDR5 at all. I’d rather stick with DDR4 for now—it’s more affordable (~$80 for two 8GB) than risking a DDR5 upgrade.
I can handle the cost but I need to assemble a PC on the AM5 platform so I can enjoy smooth gameplay at high frame rates. My plan is to start with a good motherboard, processor, case, and all necessary components for a functional system. Then I’ll purchase a second-hand GTX 1060 or RX 580 for roughly 125€. I’ll use the Samsung G7 as my display (1440p at 240Hz, around 400€ in my area) and play AAA titles at 720p with some AA, while streaming esports at 1440p at lower settings. Once I have about 600-700€ left, I’ll upgrade to something like the RX 7700 XT, 6800, or the Ti series.
