I believe my PC is crashing because the RAM gets too hot on DOCP. What should I do next? Sorry for the lengthy update. Recently, I’ve been using memory that runs at 4800 MHz instead of its rated 6000MHz. I decided to turn on the DOCP profile. Since then, random crashes have happened. At first, I thought it was the CPU, but after trying undervolting and overclocking my 7600X, removing both caused everything to work again. Updating the motherboard BIOS after a TPM fix helped too. My RAM has three DOCP profiles—standard, II, and a custom setting. This is my first AMD CPU; I used an i7 4790K with 32GB RAM split into two 16GB slots, which only had one XMP profile. I’m not an expert in RAM overclocking.

I reactivated the DOCP profile I used, turned off MCR and PDE in BIOS, and thought that might have solved the problem. But a crash happened again the next day. I ran a memory test with MemTest86—no issues. Then I did a Prime95 stress test for 20–30 minutes to check thermal stability; it worked. I repeated the test for several hours, but still got crashes.

Later, after a break, I tried running Prime95 on large datasets, which was tougher on memory. RAM temperatures reached 57–58°C right before the crash. Now I’m unsure what to do. Here are my options:

1. Accept running at 4800 MHz instead of 6000 MHz—maybe speed doesn’t matter much.
2. Try overclocking RAM for lower voltage while keeping speed.
3. Upgrade cooling—either an AIO with a VRM fan or switching to air cooling for better airflow.

I’m using an old Corsair 120mm AIO and have a new AM5 mounting kit. I’m considering either an AIO with a local VRM fan or going with air cooling to improve case ventilation.

RAM temperature is unlikely to be the issue. 58 degrees is acceptable. The problem seems to stem from something else—possibly an instability elsewhere. Run OCCT to check system stability. Verify each category for a minimum of one hour https://www.ocbase.com/

I: The profile pulls main settings like timings (30-36-36-76), frequency (6000MHz) and voltage (1.40V) from the RAM’s overclocked data. It depends on the motherboard’s auto-rules for secondary and tertiary adjustments, making it the most compatible automated option. * D.O.C.P. II: This tries to fetch the full overclocked profile along with all manufacturer-defined sub-timings. * D.O.C.P. Tweaked: The profile loads the overclocked data then adds ASUS-specific tweaks for extra performance. Whether that’s accurate I’m unsure!
