Hey there! I’m reaching out to the community about my recent MacBook experience. After years with Windows, I’ve been dealing with laptop battery problems, which really drove me to switch to MacBooks in 2023. This time I picked an M1 Pro 14-inch model and it’s been a bit of a trial. My setup uses a 4K60Hz Samsung U32R59C connected via HDMI, and it supports DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0. The main issue is that whenever I connect it to the MacBook, there’s frequent flickering. I’ve used several HDMI cables—including the original one from the box and a standard one—to try and fix it, but nothing seems to stabilize the connection. On DisplayPort 1.1 it works, but then it becomes unstable again, switching on and off. Anyone have any suggestions or fixes for this problem? Thanks in advance!
This individual has experienced multiple display issues, including static, flickering, and dropouts across different monitors—even at low resolutions like a 1280x1024 DVI setup using HDMI and DP over USB-C. It appears there may be an underlying problem with the display output itself.
The thing is, I've used the MacBook with my old 1080p Asus monitor over VGA with a HDMI adapter and it worked fine. Well, as fine as it could when the display itself had power supply problems. When I got the monitor, i went around online searching for it and people recommended trying different color profiles and using DP. The problem is that MacBook has no DP output, so I first got an HDMI to DP adapter, since I own a couple of HDMI cables by now, but apparently it was for DP input, HDMI output. So i decided to just get a type C to DP cable. Which barely works. My friend has read somewhere that it's because MacBook internal DP is low power? But I've yet to find anything that corroborates that and it doesn't explain the HDMI problems
Only a direct DP to HDMI connection works with a basic cable, while HDMI to DP requires an active conversion. DP or HDMI are essentially interchangeable, driven by the same chip. It seems the issue was that the output doesn’t quite meet requirements, sometimes working on certain devices but often failing. A Thunderbolt dock could assist since the driver would be inside the dock and the other Mac component wouldn’t be used.
