Issues with Brother HL-L2380DW connection (LAN functional now, WAN for Dropbox not working)
Issues with Brother HL-L2380DW connection (LAN functional now, WAN for Dropbox not working)
the printer functioned properly with the old router
upgraded to an ASUS TUF Gaming ax3000 v2
uncertain if the FreshTomato firmware is available for this model with a GUI, only backend support remains
the printer appears not to work with Wi-Fi 6/AX or 5GHz, even after disabling them
after turning off Wi-Fi 6, the SSID showed up but connection failed
an error code 03 appeared during a successful connection attempt
previously the printer connected smoothly via Ethernet
and connected to Dropbox without issues
uncertain if I should try another toner-based printer or scanner
today I reset the printer and left it unplugged briefly, then reconnected Ethernet
after logging into Dropbox it still fails (Error 05)
it worked fine earlier, possibly the cable was bent or damaged
I tested another device with the same cable and it functioned correctly
I contacted Brother support about this issue, and they say printing is possible now
I cleaned some toner or the wheel tube inside...
there’s a Demo button on the touchscreen after reset, and it prints on LAN
but Dropbox or WAN connections still don’t work
think about trying a USB connection or using a miniPC or an automated shared folder as a workaround. There are options to sync files with SyncThing or similar services, or consider getting a new printer. The top right icon for Demo is no longer available, but the Wi-Fi indicator still shows. I'm getting an error when checking the connection and am trying the email menu. It asks if you have an internet connection before proceeding. Yes, it did upload after scanning, but usually it fails. I'm not sure if Dropbox will work again.
Many printers can perform a networking diagnostic, but I'm not sure what's causing the issue with Ethernet. It might just be a simple plug-and-play scenario unless the router is behaving oddly. The printer should normally obtain an IP address via DHCP, and you should be able to check your router's interface for any active links or lights.
For wireless connections, older printers may face compatibility problems with modern security protocols. Review your router settings and consider downgrading from WPA3 to WPA2 or switching to mixed mode if the firmware allows. 802.11ax is generally backward compatible with 802.11n, so ensure your router is broadcasting on the 2.4GHz band.
WPA2 is active on the router LED (port4). The Wi-Fi connection functioned with the previous router. Ethernet remained operational on the new router at least. Dropbox was functional until I recently removed Ethernet and reconnected. DHCP appears to assign IP addresses correctly, and the LAN interface prints properly. There seems to be intermittent behavior with WAN dropbox functionality—sometimes it connects, sometimes not, and uploading fails. I encountered errors 03 in some menus and error 05 on the upload screen. I've tried all Wi-Fi configurations, reduced the frequency to 2.4GHz strictly, and disabled Wifi 6AX, which still allows the SSID to appear but prevents connection. It's already running WPA2. The LAN is working now, and I'm trying to resolve any issues from cloud services that were previously problematic. I might attempt it again a few more times.
