Issues with boot loop power and no display on gigabyte GA-H170M-D3H
Hello everyone,
I want to apologize ahead of time if my English isn’t very clear.
I’ll begin from the start.
After updating my BIOS to the latest version on the GIGABYTE motherboard website (F23F), I started facing a range of unusual and odd issues.
Once I restarted the computer, there was no display on the screen. I had to leave the power off for an entire day before plugging it back in, and only then did it turn on with a screen. But even then, it would only appear once.
When I restarted again, the screen disappeared completely—this was a very strange phenomenon.
I dismissed the idea that the BIOS update was the cause and began searching for other possible solutions.
I thought maybe the power supply was the issue, so I purchased a new one.
Connecting it, the computer entered a continuous loop of restarts, repeatedly turning itself off and on without progressing to the operating system.
In the following days, after installing the new power supply, I noticed that even though the screen remained active, the computer would keep restarting in loops.
It would display briefly during these cycles, allowing me to enter BIOS mode. There, it could run for hours. But once it exited BIOS and tried to boot via USB or hard drive, it immediately entered a restart loop.
Now, after several days in this situation, there’s still no screen display, and the computer keeps restarting endlessly.
The fans would start working and then stop, only to restart again.
I feel quite frustrated and am trying to list all the attempts I made without success.
Here are the actions I tried:
- Connected the screen directly to the video card
- Connected it to the built-in board video card
- Removed the processor and reinserted it
- Deleted all memory modules, leaving only one
- Removed the battery from the board
- Placed a JUMPER on the board for CMOS
- Cleared memory contacts
- Swapped power cables for the screen
- Replaced the power supply with an ANTEC CSK 750 model
- Disconnected all connections and SATA cables
- Tested with an older computer that had a 500W power supply
I connected it to the new 750W power supply, and everything worked—display appeared, and everything functioned properly.
Interesting, I even tried replacing the motherboard battery.
My specifications:
- Motherboard: GA-H170M-D3H (Gigabyte)
- 4x 8GB memory sticks totaling 32GB (TED48G2400C16BK, DDR4 2400)
- CPU: I5-6600
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 1080p
- PSU: 750W ANTEC CSK 750W
Thank you for your help in advance. I’d love to know what else could be done.
Thermal shutdown maybe? The thermal paste is that age? The motherboard's condition? Check the file here.
Hello
Ralston18,
you mentioned something else, not the motherboard. My board uses DDR4.
What does thermal shutdown mean?
I changed the thermal paste four months ago.
Hello everyone, here’s an update... I managed to clear the CMOS using two wires, this time it worked well. However, when I reach the POST screen, pressing the BIOS entry option keeps me there indefinitely. If I exit the BIOS, the computer restarts repeatedly with a display and then loops back into the BOOT cycle until I re-enter the BIOS menu. This means I’m stuck at the beginning unless I can view the BIOS screen again.
Please check the pictures I uploaded at these links:

Now the issue is figuring out how to proceed from here. The computer keeps looping in BIOS and can’t reach the operating system or boot from USB.
hello Hello everyone, a new update and good news!
after i did clear cmos with two wires , one way with pc power on
and other way with pc turn of without the battry
so the only thing i was able to do its only go inside the bios or stay with the boot loop

i was installing again and the q-flash utility was asking to confirm and boom it boot to windows immediately
And I was so happy and excited that everything was working again... after 4 months
