Issues with black screening are present.
I've experienced unexpected black screen interruptions while gaming, especially when playing tougher titles, but also after extended sessions on less demanding games. When this happens, my screen goes dark and the GPU fans become extremely loud. The temperature remains normal, never exceeding 60°C, and I've tried remounting the graphics card a few times. I've also left the case open to check for sagging issues that might affect the PCIe slot connection. After performing a thorough driver cleanup using DDU and reinstalling them, the problem persisted. My hardware specs include a Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB RAM, an ASUS ROG Strix MB with 2070 x570-e graphics, and a 750W Gold+ power supply. The CPU runs smoothly at idle (35-45°C), moderate gaming (55°C), and intense gaming (60-65°C). Even stress testing with Ryzen Master didn't cause overheating beyond 75°C.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! I have a 750W Gold+ PSU. The 750W is the stated power output, while Gold+ indicates the 80+ efficiency rating. Could you tell me the model and make of your PC? How recent is this PSU in your system? What BIOS version does your motherboard support? Please share your discrete GPU details as well. How are you managing to cool the processor?
none of those questions will address my problem. the processor isn't part of the solution i know it isn't, i don't have a "donor build" available since i'm just a regular person with one build, and i can't identify the psu because it's hidden in the psu shroud without removing it. the bios doesn't relate to this issue either.
Understanding what would resolve your problem and what wouldn't has likely solved it already. Knowing the precise PSU is crucial, and without it, further advice is limited.
No, it's not a simple yes or no. A crash during startup—especially with gaming as a demanding task—is usually due to power supply issues, not temperature concerns.
It appears to be a 750W MWE Gold Full Modular with model number MPY-7501-AFAAG. Identifying the exact type was easy after checking the side panel on the back.
That's a fairly solid assessment. I had to verify it because there are many low-quality Gold-rated items and a lot of counterfeits. Someone claimed their 600W "Gold" 80 Plus power supply would work fine for about a week, but it turned out to be an nJoy brand using their own 80 Plus label on a fake-rated product. The fix came from replacing the power supply.
The issue isn't immediately obvious, as you've already checked many likely causes. It's still possible the power supply is failing, so I think you're likely at the point where swapping it out or the GPU would be more practical. Do you have a simple, inexpensive GPU on hand for testing? It seems like that might be easier than replacing the PSU.
Unfortunately, I don't think so. I was thinking about upgrading to a 4070 Ti soon, because a 750W still works well for that, and my MB being an X570 wouldn't cause any problems either. It's just a small change; before launching Overwatch, I could at least stay in the menu without crashing, only crashing when entering a practice range. Now I'm crashing right after the load screen into the main menu. Whatever it is, it's getting worse. Temperatures are still normal. I've been trying to undervolt it for about 20 minutes to see if that would reduce pressure on the PSU and GPU, but nothing changed. I tested 925, 950, and 975mV at 1950MHz, then 1900, down to 1755; none helped much, except a slight memory boost around 200MB with MSI Afterburner. The first time I used DDU to reinstall drivers it worked for a short while, maybe during three Rainbow Six Siege games, but after the 4th game it went back to black screen.
I've used this setup for roughly four years now, and I haven't checked the cables connected to the PSU. Maybe I could try unplugging them and reattaching? About a year ago I moved from TX to IL and shipped my PC during that time. I mistakenly labeled the box as fragile, thinking they would handle it safely, but they didn't. When the box arrived, the tempered glass panel was completely broken, and everything inside was damaged. After removing the glass, things worked fine 100%. However, when I turned the case upside down, I still found a few shards here and there. It might be in the PSU shroud, though I'm not sure if it would actually matter since the pieces are small and the glass was tempered.
