I bought the motherboard and CPU on July 25th. The board came with BIOS version 4804, so the CPU worked without needing an older chip to update the BIOS. The system was running smoothly until the 5220 update was released last month. I tried the update at the start of October and everything went wrong. My first thought was that the BIOS might have bricked the board, but there’s no flashback on this motherboard—good news. I went through the ASUS RMA process and received a new board. The new one didn’t work with my CPU, so it seems they sent me an older BIOS version, even though I wanted a later one. I got a Ryzen 1400 and tried to update the BIOS to 5220, which worked fine and let me connect to Windows with the new CPU. The socket matched my 3600, but I still had no post. It’s strange—none of the third-gen chips fit, yet all first- and second-gen ones did. Now my motherboard seems useless. I’m considering returning the CPU to ASUS, but they’ll just give me another incompatible board.
It's unusual, both of us use the same board. I've managed to boot on my 2700x even though my friend uses a 3800x. He seems to have the latest BIOS 5220 and it's still working well.
The person at the shop mentioned they’d seen this twice, focusing on Prime boards. I found only one discussion on the AMD forums about it. The post explained the precise problem, noting that after upgrading to 5220, no third-gen CPU would work. I plan to return the board for a replacement, getting a fresh board and CPU.
You're experiencing the same problem with identical BIOS versions. Using your friend's 2600X worked fine, but adding your 3700X triggered blue screens and post issues. After two RMA attempts, each time the replacement didn't match your model. Now you're stuck with a faulty Asus board and no time to return the money.
