I assembled a PC for a flip and checked the BIOS, finding no XMP support for the RAM. I attempted to manually overclock it, but the system would freeze unpredictably. Lowering the clock speed to 2133 MHz didn’t cause crashes, though. The RAM I’m using is a Patriot Signature Premium 16GB 3200MHz model. I don’t want to accept the slowest possible speed, so can I find a workaround?
Is Patriot Signature Premium a JEDEC kit? Searching online reveals the CL/timings and voltage seem typical OEM/non-gaming configurations, lacking an XMP profile. If you're using an older BIOS, it may struggle to recognize it since 3200 was only supported by Zen 2 in 2019, while B450 came earlier in 2018. Which CPU are you running? Their website table suggests using a 5000, 4000 or 3000 for non-OC 3200 systems.
You’d likely see the latest BIOS set up to run at 3200 MHz without any manual input, and it wouldn’t just start at 2133 MHz.
It actually sets the value to 3200 at 1.2 volts, yet the computer becomes unresponsive after a short time within Windows.
