Issues with access point performance
Hello everyone, I'm trying to understand why my setup isn't achieving higher speeds on the access point. I have a modem and router combo connected to a gigabit switch via a 50-meter Cat5e cable. The computers on the switch work fine with the same cable, but when I connect to the access point, I only get 7-8 Mbps. I also have a 400 Mbps router that works in access point mode using the same cable. My question is: what's limiting the speed on the access point despite the higher connection speeds on my computers? Thanks for your help.
We require details about the access point model, its setup, distance from it, and your intended use. There are numerous factors involved.
This can be more reasons than I care to mention, but honestly, forums seem unnecessary. Just because the router supports 300Mbps doesn't guarantee it will work over Wi-Fi. The actual speed you receive depends on the device too, not just the access point. If your internet is 400Mbps and two computers each use 200Mbps, there won't be enough bandwidth for other devices.
