Issues with a weak Wi-Fi connection from your modem or router combo.
I own an affordable Cisco that performs better than my cable services—only about half a mile better. Still, 135 feet of strong indoor signal up and down the stairs surpasses the roughly 85 feet I receive from my provider. I believe your Wi-Fi device might be faulty. Edited April 18, 2017 by crzyces It also functions much more effectively across different floors.
My place is made mostly of drywall, wood, glass, and wires. Concrete could really block things. Haha, sounds like I’m describing a pipe.
I'll contact my ISP tomorrow. If they're unable to resolve the issue, I'll consider obtaining an access point. Or should I evaluate a router as an alternative?
Did OP discover a solution or test another configuration? We’ve received comparable modems from our cable provider, which consistently show weak WiFi performance. It seems they might be using low-quality modem/router setups or the combo unit isn’t ideal. I recall older routers offering better connectivity. Most of us are wired, but some devices require WiFi access. I’m using more mobile devices now and have been investigating similar problems. No immediate answers expected; thank you for any input. Considering a different approach, though, pending after the billing cycle. Will keep an eye on it.
