Hi guys. I'm facing some issues when trying to overclock my CPU (i5 2500k) in the BIOS. It shows an option called "CPU Clock Ratio" with a note to set the ratio if it's unlocked, but it won't let me change it from 3.3GHz. I'm curious why this happens. Can I still overclock using this motherboard, or do I need to use overclock software? Also, what software would you suggest? Thanks, here are my specs: CPU, i5 2500k; motherboard, Gigabyte GA-Q77M-D2H; RAM, 16GB Vengeance 1600MHZ; SSD, 128GB HD, 1TB SATA; GPU, 660 GTX; power supply, Silverstone 500W; cooling, Antec 920 Watercooler.

If you aim to unlock the CPU core multiplier, it is possible. However, if not, you are limited to BCLK overclocking, though BCLK serves as the reference clock for other clocks like USB, PCIe, and SATA. Achieving a stable overclock rarely exceeds 5%, mainly due to the weakest component among those interfaces.

Also check if there are any settings in BIOS that should be adjusted.

Overclocking isn't possible in that way on the Q77 Chipset. Just BLCK overclocking, but skip it.

Sorry, the information you're asking about requires a specific z-series chipset (z67, z75, z77) to enable the CPU's core clock multiplier.

It seems you require a z-series chipset (z67, z75, z77) to enable the CPU's core clock multiplier. That’s why I can’t overclock in other ways.

Joshua_32:
Is the MSI B75MA-P45 a motherboard with an overclocking feature? It's possible, though not at very high speeds. It doesn't have strong VRM cooling.

Really, I had no idea there were overclock motherboards and overclock CPUs available. That's a big setback for my project. My only option seems to be purchasing a Z-series motherboard.
