Issues turning off CSM and activating Secure Boot on GIGABYTE B450m DS3H
Hello, I've encountered a rather strange problem with my pc (specs below). When I tried to play Faceit(cs2) yesterday, the anti-cheat failed because secure boot is disabled, I had enabled secure boot for this purpose before. I opened the BIOS, and with this MBO, in order to enable Secure Boot you must first disable CSM and reboot before then enabling secure boot, but when I disable CSM and reboot my pc goes straight into Windows 11 and does not allow me to access the bios, no matter how many times I restart(and spam delete) the pc goes straight into windows. I tried to go into the bios through the windows recovery tools -- Black screen. The only way to access the BIOS again is to clear the CMOS, which reverts CSM to enabled, which starts the whole process over again. I've done a good bit of research on the topic and below is a list of all the things I have tried. I would also like to note that if I make a change in the BIOS that isn't CSM, it saves and allows me to re-enter the BIOS, from this I deduced that CMOS is not the problem but is related to UEFI not activating properly. SOLVED! - This MBO, the GIGABYTE B450m DS3H v1, seems to have a somewhat widespread issue in recognizing legacy vs UEFI device compatibilities. My issue presented as very complex (at least to me) and was solved by moving a damn HDMI cable to a different input on my monitor. Why did that fix it? I couldn't tell you, as I unplugged the monitor previously while troubleshooting so its connection should have been reset + I haven't recently unplugged that cable, so it's weird that the issue would start weeks/months later. But I don't know. Anyways, there's a guy on Youtube that is trying to get GIGABYTE to address this issue(or related one) so if you want to see that it is below. 1. I made sure all of my drives are GPT, they are and the boot drive has the EFI partition 2. I updated the BIOS to F67g, the most current one 3. I cleared CMOS, removed it for 15 min and held the power button to remove any static 4. I formatted my boot drive and reinstalled Windows 11 through a usb, it is still GPT with EFI partition 5. Updated my Nvidia Drivers to most current EDIT -- I'm using an hdmi cable, and in msinfo32, my "BIOS Mode" is UEFI Any ideas or comments would be fantastic, and thank you for taking time out of your day to read this! Fast boot is turned off – sorry, I should have been clearer. If I attempt to reach the BIOS via Windows recovery tools after disabling CSM, the computer will restart (fans stop and then restart again) but won’t show anything until I reset the CMOS. When CSM is off, I can’t get to the BIOS, and the PC jumps straight into Windows.
I'm puzzled at the moment, sir. I've been trying to resolve this for the past 48 hours. I read about switching to an HDMI cable instead of dp or vga, but since I was already using HDMI, I didn't think much about it. My monitor has two HDMI inputs; I moved the cable to the other port, and now CSM is disabled while Secure Boot functions. When I switch it back to the original port, it still works... This issue might relate to legacy vs UEFI detection with connected devices. Thank you for your assistance, and I hope this helps someone else later. -Scraxes
