I purchased a Steam Deck from a friend who bought a roguelike and downloaded ROMs from a Reddit thread about them. There are some odd behaviors I’ve noticed—like the Steam button needing repeated presses and noticeable lag in the OS menu. Since it’s only been two weeks, I’m wondering if these issues could be linked to malware from the sources I came across.

The chances of finding a virus targeting SteamOS are minimal. Consider resetting the device if you're concerned.

I understand you're looking to verify if there are any malware threats on your system.

Perform a complete factory reset. If a virus existed, locating it would be extremely difficult without significant Linux knowledge.

You could retain the emulated games by simply taking out the micro SD card.

If the ROMs have malware, simply resetting the device while keeping infected files only causes more infections. Instead, reformat the SD card and perform a factory reset. For those seeking pirated ROMs, it’s likely possible to locate alternatives.

I see my whole thing is I don't know if there even is a virus. It's just a concern My games run well and there doesn't seem to be anything besides that steam os is a little buggy here and there.

The Steam Deck software sometimes behaves oddly, which isn't unusual. I wouldn't be surprised if malware existed for SteamOS, especially since many people still use Windows ROMs. Have you changed to Desktop Mode and confirmed everything is current? It could simply be a missing software update.

I've visited it and it's typically just updates for the emulators.
