Hello, I have a question about gaming. I play various games and Fortnite seems to be the only one that runs poorly for me. After updating my GPU, the issue persists. There’s a problem when playing Fortnite in Discord or chat—sound cuts out and there are frequent lag spikes, especially when textures aren’t loading properly. Sometimes it takes minutes before everything finishes. It only happens with Fortnite. I also play Call of Duty, Warzone, Deadmatch, GTA V, and Rainbow Six Siege without any issues. I’ve tried reinstalling the game, but that didn’t help. I’m wondering if there’s a problem with my RAM or if upgrading to 16GB would fix it. My specs are an i3 8350K (4GHz), GTX 1660 Super, and 8GB RAM. Also, I didn’t remove the GPU drivers before switching GPUs, though some suggest it might be unnecessary. Thanks in advance!

Use DDU to swap cards without caring about the manufacturer. What was your previous GPU model?

Your processor activity increases during gameplay, leading to audio interruptions and performance drops.

My audio keeps stopping unexpectedly. It begins after switching tabs. While playing Fortnite at full volume, the CPU usage reaches nearly 100%. Even without alt-tabbing, the game runs poorly.

I anticipated this. Consider reducing the in-game frame rate and marginally increasing the CPU speed, provided cooling permits. Also, shut down any other CPU-heavy applications running in the background that you probably don’t need.

And if I play solo, like a solo session, and close everything (chrome, Discord), and never use alt-tab, then it works fine. BUT once I play with friends or join a Discord call, I notice the game feels less smooth.

Unfortunately, I can't help with that.

CPU is lacking and you'll be pretty close to your RAM limit also. This is a good option to help but cpu and ram upgrade will be the best solution.

Alright, just to clarify, unless you're targeting 144Hz, I'd suggest capping the in-game FPS limit to avoid the CPU from generating extra frames. You might also boost graphics-related settings within the game, which should help balance the workload between CPU and GPU. As @glenalz81 pointed out earlier, upgrading the CPU and RAM would still be the most effective approach.
