Issues following Windows update installation
Issues following Windows update installation
I own an Asus laptop (UX430UNR 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, 1.8 GHz) for a few years now, which has performed well and satisfied most of my daily requirements.
Approximately two weeks ago, after running a Windows update, the situation deteriorated significantly. Initially, I lost access to the email service (using new Outlook) on the machine.
I attempted to uninstall the updates I had installed, but the problem worsened further. The system began to slow down and eventually displayed a "blue screen" warning that indicated a device issue requiring a restart. A QR code containing the STOPCODE appeared. Despite these attempts, nothing functions properly; statistics remain unchanged, and I am unable to perform any key actions such as Ctrl + Alt + Del. The only solution is to keep pressing the power button and follow the recommended steps.
The issue becomes more severe when the computer restarts: I am only presented with the BIOS menu and cannot select a boot option. Upon restarting again, Windows launches normally. It seems I need to keep the device running continuously or enter sleep mode to use it regularly.
I have tried using Powershell with commands like CHKDSK, DISM, and SFC to resolve the problem.
Nevertheless, the challenge remains. I’m wondering whether reinstalling Windows 10 would be the best solution, or if upgrading to Windows 11 while the system is operational could work. I’m considering a fresh OS with updated drivers and patches.
My plan was to upgrade the existing SSD from 512GB to 2TB. Should I proceed with that and reinstall Windows 10 on the new drive?
Option 1: Reinstall Windows 10 on the current device with the same SSD.
Option 2: Upgrade to Windows 11 on the same SSD.
Option 3: Replace the current SSD with a new one and reinstall Windows 10?
I replaced the SSD drive and installed a fresh Windows 10 on it. I moved my previous files from the old SSD to the new one without any problems. I believe the issue was related to the operating system since the file transfer went smoothly. No Windows 11 yet. I’ll wait for the next one or even the third to arrive so they can resolve the problems.
