Issues encountered with 5950x
A year ago I assembled a PC using a 5950x processor and 128GB of RAM, achieving top performance for my needs. The experience has been mostly smooth, but I've consistently faced lag and stuttering issues—especially with the mouse and keyboard, plus random crashes (BSODs) that point to memory management problems and ntoskrnl.exe. I've tried numerous fixes: updating BIOS/drivers, reinstalling software, and even replacing components like RAM and modules. Despite passing stress tests and benchmark results, recent tests revealed errors in Memtest86 (test 7). Removing XMP settings and certain RAM modules didn't help. I suspect either the CPU or the RAM might be faulty, but I've seen others resolve similar issues by swapping out the CPU. I'm unsure which is the root cause and need guidance to confirm whether the problem lies with the processor or the memory.
If you skip modules 1 and 2, it might mean one kit is faulty. If the problem persists when testing each stick alone, the memory controller in the CPU could be the cause.
Just tried B2 and A2, encountered issues immediately (test 6).
Are you available to examine each stick separately before deciding on XMP?
I checked the other two sticks in those same slots and found no issues. I also used an older 4x16GB DDR4 RAM unit during testing, which also showed zero errors. This suggests one of the first two sticks is likely faulty. I wasn’t sure if a bad RAM would cause mouse stuttering or if it meant both the CPU and RAM were defective.
