Issues encountered during keyboard swap on Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H model
Hello, a week ago my Legion keyboard began acting up—certain keys wouldn't respond properly. I purchased two replacement keyboards, but only the backlight functioned; the keys remained unresponsive. The original keyboard still works when connected, though it clearly needs replacement. Could this be due to compatibility issues or a faulty component? Have others swapped similar keyboards before? Any insights would be helpful.
From what I understand, the keyboard needs two wires: one for the backlight and another for the keys. I've never just swapped out the keyboard on these laptops—always replacing the entire top cover. The first step would be to clean the connector with isopropyl alcohol and ensure the lock is properly engaged when installing the new keyboard. There might be some protection on the cable to prevent damage during shipping.
Yes, keyboard has 2 ribbon cables, I also thought that there might be some protective film or something, but there isn't. The connector has been cleaned, the lock is engaged properly and still only backlight works. Edit: I'll leave that for anyone that looks for a solution: Found a fix, the problem was with the BIOS. I had to backflash to the older BIOS version, keyboard started working. Then updated to the newest version and it still works.
