Issues encountered during GIGABYTE GA-EP31-DS3L Rev 1.0 overclocking.
Hello!
I'm experiencing difficulties when attempting to overclock my CPU.
Current configuration:
- Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP31-DS3L Rev.1.0 F4 BIOS
- CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6600 3.06Ghz
- GPU: AMD SAPPHIRE RADEON HD7790 Dual-X OC 1GB GDDR5
- RAM: 2GB DDRII 800Mhz 1.8V Kingmax KLDE88F-B8KW5 UDIMM
- 2GB DDRII 800Mhz 1.8V <noname> UDIMM
- Power Supply: FSP Hexa+ 500W
- Hard Drive: SAMSUNG HD161HJ 160GB SATAII
- SSD: TOSHIBA DT01ACA050 500GB SATAIII (SATAII)
I received guidance from another website, which suggested adjustments for BIOS setup. We followed their instructions carefully to ensure everything functioned properly.
Changes made:
- PCI Express Frequency AUTO → 100Mhz
- System Memory Multiplier (SPD) AUTO → 3.00
- DDR2 DeOverVoltage Control NORMAL → -0.1V (1.9V - > 1.8V)
- CPU WARNING TEMPERATURE DISABLED → 70°C
- CPU FAN FAIL DISABLED → ENABLED
- CPU Clock Ratio 11 → 11
- Fine CPU Clock Ratio +0.5 → > +0.0
- Performance Enhanced Turbo → Turbo
- CPU Host Frequency 266 → 320 (FSB)
- CPU Voltage Control NORMAL → 1.30000V
My machine ran at 3520Mhz for a short time, then stopped after inserting the new hard drive. I checked BIOS settings before and after installation, but nothing changed. The machine restarted after a reset, but only briefly reached 3200Mhz.
The issue started when I installed the new hard disk. In BIOS, I tried to adjust settings, but the system froze or restarted repeatedly. Eventually, it displayed a POST message showing 3060Mhz instead of 3520Mhz.
I attempted to restore BIOS settings, but failed. After refreshing the BIOS (pressing F4 → F5f for beta), it worked temporarily. However, the problem returned later.
If I had set the PCI Express frequency to 100Mhz instead, the machine wouldn’t have started properly—only the fans spun. It seemed the BIOS resisted changes if I saved certain values. The monitor stayed black but didn’t go dark.
Could you help me fix the overclock settings? What’s the issue?
