I recently switched my modem/router because Vodafone acquired the company I was using. They installed their new device and a technician had to sync it. We also upgraded to 1G. Gaming, especially WoW, was causing major issues—I’d randomly experience 300ms lags that would reset temporarily. Another odd problem was Speedtest.net showing normal results, but when I tested on another monitor with a YouTube video, downloads spiked to 400-600 while uploads stayed at 50. This didn’t happen when I paid for 500 downloads; the test always remained consistent, even during games or videos.

My setup includes a Cat5 Ethernet cable, connected directly via ethernet to my modem/router (Homebox FRITZ! Box 6591). My PC is high-end—Asus Rog Strix z390-E gaming CPU, i9-9900KF GPU, 2080ti graphics card. I ran a full system recovery to rule out old Windows settings interfering. Everything seems fresh.

This issue started right after I replaced the router I bought back and received the FRITZ! Box. It’s happening on both my end and theirs, so it might be a broader problem. I’ve spoken to Vodafone multiple times; they say everything is normal on their side. Maybe my Windows or network configuration isn’t handling 1G speeds well, or perhaps there’s something else at play. I’m at a loss for solutions right now.

It seems like you're questioning whether performance checks are being manipulated to appear normal.

When servers or intermediate nodes are busy, latency increases. WoW servers aren't managed by your ISP. Use tracert to a WoW server to identify ping spikes. Check your YouTube video quality settings. Confirm no other users are consuming bandwidth simultaneously.

I’ve checked the bandwidth usage during video, streaming, and gaming sessions—it stays well under 50. However, a speed test reveals a drastic drop to around 600 Mbps from a normal 930 Mbps. I’m unsure what this means. Also, I always run the highest quality setting and never experienced any issues. This shouldn’t happen with a 1k download speed.

You're facing slow performance with certain WoW servers. It could indicate an issue on the server side. Consider testing latency with different servers during the issue.
