Issues during setup of new GPU including artifacts, black screens, and BSOD errors.
I aimed to replace my RTX 3070 with an RTX 4070 Ti Super. It functioned for about 40 minutes before crashing and is now non-functional. Hardware specs: Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 (latest BIOS), Intel 12700K CPU, Gigabyte Gaming OC 8GB RTX 3070, Palit GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER JetStream OC, 2x16GB Kingston Fury 3600MHz DDR4 RAM, 2x Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1x 6TB HDD, OSD running Win11 Pro 23H2. PC is from late 2022 (self-built). What happened? I installed the RTX 4070 Ti Super drivers, removed Nvidia ones using DDU, used shutdown option, swapped GPU, rebooted, and applied the drivers plus GeForce Experience. Everything seems normal so far—basic checks passed, benchmark results were typical, game played without issues, then after ~20 minutes the system crashed with a terminal error, froze, and stopped responding. After restarting, I experienced constant glitches, artifacts, black screens, and even a BSOD. Mouse and keyboard worked briefly before shutting down. After reboot, I noticed persistent problems—glitches, artifacts, occasional failures. Attempted to use IGPU, reinstalled GPUs, checked PCIe slots for damage, verified drivers, but nothing changed. Sanity check: I downloaded the correct drivers. Over the past year my system stayed stable, only minor graphical hiccups appeared, mainly on YouTube. These issues make me concerned about a hardware fault rather than a software problem. I attached error logs and a video of the black screens for reference.
It seems this card could be worthless. That’s why exchange rules and guarantees matter! If you purchased it brand new from a trustworthy seller, contact their customer service to request a replacement. If that’s not possible, reach out to the board partner’s warranty team.
Thanks for your response and guidance! I've already contacted customer support (purchased from Mindfactory, a trustworthy seller) and plan to return it tomorrow. My main concern was the "fear" of missing something obvious. The other issue was the occasional artifacts I experienced before—could an incorrectly seated CPU or something similar be causing such unusual behavior across both GPUs? Not sure about PCIE connections; maybe a loose contact is the problem. Either way, it seems best to wait for the retailer's assessment and proceed with troubleshooting if they confirm everything looks fine.
Short Summary - Just received a poor card, but the replacement is working great.
