Issues arising from XMP?
PC constructed roughly two weeks prior: CPU: Intel Core i5-13600KF 3.5 GHz Motherboard: ASRock B760M PG Riptide Micro ATX LGA1700 Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive Graphics Card: Asus DUAL OC GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB Memory Drive Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 PE 850 W 80+ Gold Fresh setup of Windows 11 has been completed. I upgraded the BIOS to version 7.07, which mostly lets me play CP2077 and once Witcher3 with the latest patches. The game froze briefly then crashed to the desktop. Other titles have run smoothly without issues. GOW hasn’t encountered this before, though I haven’t spent much time on it yet. I was prompted to submit an error report to cd projet. Occasionally I see errors like: Error reason: Unhandled exception Expression: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005) Message: The thread attempted to read inaccessible data at 0x58. File: <Unknown>(0). It’s difficult to reproduce. Nothing unusual in the game seems to cause it. I can play for hours without trouble and this hasn’t happened before. I attempted reinstalling games and Windows, but nothing worked. Disabling XMP in the BIOS seemed to help, though I’m unsure because the problem appears random. I’d prefer using this RAM at its advertised speed, so I’m looking for another fix. Memtest86 detected no errors, so I’m not certain what else to try. Thanks!
I attempted TestMem5 using the 1usmus_v3 configuration. It seems I might have made a mistake, as running it as admin triggered a warning about enabling AWE. The tests lasted around twenty minutes and produced 18 errors, which is confusing. I wasn't sure if there was an issue with the setup. I hope the memory is sufficient. Gskill's warranty states I can replace it within 30 days of purchase.
This occurs during the initial startup. Typically, a simple restart resolves the issue for subsequent runs. The report indicates 18 errors. Ideally, there should be a log file available for review, though I haven’t found practical value in examining it. Having 18 errors within 20 minutes is concerning, especially since crashes are limited to that scenario. This strongly points to a RAM problem. My first step would be to run the application with default settings (XMP off) to determine if errors persist. Adjusting voltage or timing might resolve some issues. It’s important to confirm whether the problem lies solely in the RAM rather than other components like the CPU, motherboard, or BIOS before attempting repairs or replacements.
I’d also consider re-seating the memory, particularly with DDR5, as improper mounting pressure can cause instability even after a successful boot. This tends to affect higher-speed modules, though it usually happens faster than 6400 MHz.

Adjusted RAM to default settings and reran the test. No issues this time. Still unfamiliar with voltage adjustments, but I thought XMP might handle it. Any additional tests you recommend? Uncertain about next steps—I plan to re-seat it tomorrow when daylight is better. Appreciate your help.
It seems you're experiencing some unusual behavior with your system. 6400 AFAIK usually fits most setups on the 13th generation, which is quite surprising since it doesn't seem tailored for you. If the reseat doesn't resolve the issue, consider trying a different BIOS revision to check if that resolves the problem. Keep in mind that newer BIOS versions don't always guarantee optimal performance—my Unify-X actually shows the best memory support with the three revision old AB version instead of the current AE. The fact it functions at default settings suggests the issue might lie with the CPU or motherboard. Pinpointing the exact cause is tough without a spare to test, but there are tests you can run to narrow it down, such as checking specific memory slots or devices. Also, just to confirm, the memory slots you're using are A2 and B2 (second and fourth if counting from the CPU).
Consider rearranging the components on a single stick for testing. You might want to use an additional CPU for comparison. This item was purchased from Amazon and is eligible for return until January 31, allowing you to order a replacement and send the current one back once received.
Absolutely, that's the kind of conclusion you'd reach. Nice work figuring it out!
