Issues arising from the latest updates on my Windows 10 Pro desktop...
Hello, I'm checking if others face similar issues with the latest Windows 10 updates. I usually put my PC to sleep every night and only restart it after about two weeks when problems arise, mainly with viewing videos or photos in Windows Media Player. Recently, this has started happening within days instead of weeks. I also notice my monitor entering sleep mode and not waking up unless I keep pressing 'Enter' and the 'Spacebar' repeatedly while clicking on the mouse. Sometimes it turns black and I have to restart the PC to fix things. Additionally, 4K Video Downloader+ no longer works for downloading YouTube and Facebook videos. I've thought about uninstalling the last two to three updates or using a restore point, but it seems like future updates might bring these problems back. Especially with the ESU updates expected until October 2026.
I don’t have a definitive answer yet, but it seems similar issues with 4000/5000 series card drivers have been reported recently, not just from a Windows update. Full details? Yes. Have you checked DDU already? My recommendation: use Windows 22h2 or earlier (1903 is my preferred version). Tools like Rufus should work well.
have you thought about that button next to sleep mode labeled "shut down"? your Windows desktop isn’t built for long periods without use, and most applications—especially background ones—don’t perform well either. this might be connected to the issue. I’m not sure if this is the only problem, but it’s likely several programs are running in the background for reasons you might not notice. you could investigate further, but after a clean Windows setup, you’ll probably see improvement in 2 to 3 weeks before performance drops. without sleep mode, many device drivers become confused quickly.
You should take a break and check the overall condition of your computer. Are many applications enabled by default in the startup menu? I think you're right about it being a mess—years of random software might be causing the issues. Instead of trying to fix things, it might be easier to reset everything and start over.
Verify if an updated GPU driver is available directly from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia rather than relying solely on Windows Update. Execute powercfg -h off in an admin CMD session to completely disable hibernation, which occasionally resolves wake issues. In Device Manager, locate your network and USB devices, then uncheck the option allowing this device to wake the computer except for keyboard/mouse. If the machine restarted immediately after certain updates, you can remove those updates via Windows Update history to determine if they’re the culprit. Keep in mind that Windows 10 remains in extended support, so some compatibility problems may persist. If your system is compatible, switching to Windows 11 typically fixes these sleep/wake difficulties.
It seems like a driver problem, but at this stage I wouldn't really suggest Windows 11 either (recent hard drive issues appear to be common and Microsoft isn't addressing it so far).
Oh! I wasn't aware of that. It seems my other laptop is probably around 2-3 years old now. I usually power off my desktop PC once a day or every couple of days, but I suppose desktops don't like being shut down often. Laptops, on the other hand, seem fine with it. P.S.: I think you should turn off hibernation—it really messes things up over time. RAM isn't great at keeping data safe unless you get models with error correction or similar features. We usually just go for the cheaper gaming options.
Yes, there have been recent updates about the Windows 11 SSD performance issue. It seems Microsoft is working on a fix, so it should be resolved soon. In the meantime, keeping the system on Windows 10 while using the latest GPU/chipset drivers and turning off hibernation or fast startup could provide a safer setup until the problem is fixed.
