Issues arise when PBO is configured manually.
I recently acquired a Ryzen 7 7700 with an Asrock B650 Steel Legend Wi-Fi and paired it with a 32GB Corsair Vengeance 6000mhz RAM setup. I installed it a few days ago. After some adjustments to my previous CPU (a 5800X), I planned to apply PBO tweaks and use Curve optimizer, but my system becomes extremely sluggish whenever I manually adjust PBO settings in BIOS. Setting the PBO limit or auto mode works fine, especially with the limit enabled, which improves gaming performance. However, when I try to configure it myself, the PC freezes significantly—booting takes over a minute, followed by multiple Windows windows before the interface appears, but everything remains very slow. I'm also attempting a clean Windows 23H2 installation from a USB drive, but the image on my stick hasn't been updated yet. Right now, I'm worried about the motherboard or CPU, hoping it's just a temporary issue since a defect would mean losing my computer and having to wait days for a full reset and reinstall.
Ensure only the curve optimizer is selected. Have you trimmed your presentation file?
Your aim is to boost performance by using PBO, but an overclocked 7700 won’t significantly impact everyday tasks. Unless you need maximum efficiency for a demanding job—something rare in home use—the focus should be on stability rather than speed. Good luck!
I aimed to adjust the PPT value to 100 since it exceeds the motherboard's maximum but the auto setting was too low (88w) and causing performance drops. In Cinebench R23, I saw 18400 with PBO on auto versus 19100 with PBO capped at 100. I wanted to set the limit higher for better speed without significantly raising temperatures.
Yes, you should keep PBO on auto and adjust the curve optimizer.
