I noticed an email in Chinese informing me that my Social Club address had been updated to another one. This was a genuine Rockstar email, not a fake. The other address wasn’t confirmed yet, so I logged in with my current email and changed the password. It seems a new account linked to my real email now exists, and the old one plus my previous gamertag is no longer valid. During the reset process, it appears a fresh account was generated instead of restoring access to the compromised one. When I tried opening the Rockstar Launcher, it refused to launch because the new email needed verification. As expected, I contacted Rockstar support for guidance, but also wanted to share this with others who might have similar experiences. This wasn’t due to a password reuse; my roommate shared login details for all my accounts months ago, suggesting a possible connection. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: It’s clear hackers often create new accounts tied to an email to complicate recovery. The mystery is resolved at least. Edit 2: A recovery link was in one of the emails, but it took time to locate since the message was in Chinese. However, deleting the new account linked to my real email requires a support ticket. Since I filed a ticket recently, it’s taking about two and a half hours to clear it. Great effort!
