Hi Everyone
I own a Dell XPS 8940 that lost power during a surge. I replaced it with a new PSU that has more wattage (500W instead of 360W). It worked initially, but then it stopped working and didn’t come back on. I’m asking:
1. Could the issue be related to the MOBO?
2. Is there a tester that checks PSUs without the 20/24 pin (I attempted to use one but it claims it needs a 20/24 pin)?
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
I was wondering if you checked whether the white connectors coming out of the PSU were connected to the motherboard, not the black ones?
It might be possible you damaged the motherboard.
Or maybe that PSU uses unique connectors—unless you're familiar with a multimeter, it's hard to confirm if the PSU was defective right out of the box.

Yes i made sure that it was only the white ones as i was told that the black ones were for video.
1. From the power surge or from the tester?
2. I have used a multimeter awhile ago
but thought maybe there is a power supply tester that doesn't need the 20/24 pin.
3. Is there a way to test the MOBO?
Thanks for your response.
