Issue with Xeon CPU temperature management
Xeon e5-2640v3 purchased tower cooler with 200TDP. Temperatures remain stable between 50-60 during normal tasks and rise to around 70 under heavy load. The unusual aspect is consistent temps regardless of stock or overclocking. Possible reasons could involve cooling efficiency, thermal paste quality, or internal component behavior.
Temperatures look just right. It might be that your fan curve changes more quickly near 70°C. Regardless, a cooler CPU under heavy load could perform better. Try a stock and boostlocked Cinebench test to check if boostlock works properly. Results should show noticeable differences.
Reviewed on Cinebench a while back, boostlock performed well. The issue is that occasionally I notice temperatures around 70-80 when the temperature limit on e5 2640v3 is set to 74. Is it normal for it to exceed the limit, or did I misinterpret what that number means?
74 serves as a caution in the system notes, indicating the maximum operating temperature before shutdown and damage reaches 105°C
