Issue with X555LB - audio & bluetooth adapter not detected on Linux Mint 21.2
Hello everyone. I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum to discuss, but I'm reaching out broadly.
I own a fairly old laptop that I'm trying to upgrade into a productivity tool, and Windows 10 feels quite sluggish, so Linux Mint seemed like a good choice. However, without any sound output it's really frustrating. I haven't managed to detect any speakers—checked the connection, tried everything else, but nothing works. The audio issues started after downgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 six or seven years ago, and even after installing all the necessary drivers from Asus, the BT output remains undetected.
I'm aware it has a foxconn Bluetooth card (MT7630e 802.11bgn), but no drivers were found for it. I also tried disabling UEFI secureboot, but the option is hidden in the BIOS. Wireless works fine, but Bluetooth doesn't seem to function. Running an RFkill command just shows the unblocked Wi-Fi card.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge—I'm just a Windows visitor and not very familiar with low-level stuff.
The main points are clear:
1) You're attempting to use a Windows-specific card in Linux, which may not work well if installation succeeds.
2) It's an OEM card originally made for brands like ASUS and HP.
3) Consider using an external wireless or Bluetooth adapter for better Linux compatibility.
