Hi everyone, I've been experiencing high CPU usage for a few months—usually between 45% and 65% when idle. The process that uses the most CPU is WMI Provider Host. I've tried some online tutorials and even reinstalled Windows, but nothing helped. It's really annoying because when I play games like BF4, the CPU spikes to 98-100%, which causes lag and sometimes crashes. Could anyone assist me? Thanks a lot!

Turn off unnecessary background tasks. Install the following tools: ADWCleaner, Combofix, Hitmanpro, RogueKiller, MSE, Malwarebytes, and Spybot S&D 1.6.2. Execute them with administrator privileges.

You're asking about stopping background tasks like the WMI Provider Host. It seems disabling them reduced CPU usage to normal levels while keeping the programs functional. Let me know if you need more details!

I’ll summarize the steps in a clearer way. Start by uninstalling any third-party antivirus software like Avast, AVG, Norton, or McAfee. Then, install and launch all the removal tools as an administrator: Adware-Removal-Tool ADWCleaner, Combofix (currently unavailable on Windows 8.1), HitmanPro, RogueKiller, SCC Spybot, and TDSSKiller. Make sure to accept updates during installation. After that, reset your browsers to their default settings and remove any suspicious plugins. Run CCleaner and restart the system. Finally, perform a system file check using SFC /Scannow via an admin CMD prompt.

I've tested all the programs epicdude recommended, but none worked. I'm unsure if this is connected, but I only use Google Chrome with no extensions or toolbars. I'll try CCleaner! Thanks Dan. By the way: I added a screenshot of the process I need to suspend so my CPU usage drops back to 2-3%.

Also consider executing “System Maintenance”. Proceed by following these actions: a. Press the Windows key plus W on your keyboard. b. Enter “Troubleshooting” in the search box and press enter. c. From the Troubleshooting window, select the “View all” option in the left panel. d. Choose “System maintenance” from the available choices. e. Click “Next” and adhere to the on-screen guidance.

Run system mechanic for cleanup. Edit: avoid downloading this.

Sorry for the wait, but after testing every program, nothing functioned properly and I was getting frustrated with all the installations. I ended up cleaning up my C drive. It took some time to reinstall everything, but now it’s working again! Ready for water cooling soon! Thanks a lot! Dan
