I included some images for reference. From the pictures, it looks like the apps appear as if they’re opening in a picture viewer. They should display their own window icons rather than always showing a picture viewer. I’ve tried: clearing thumbnails with Disk Cleanup, resetting the icon and tile caches, and running sfc /scannow via CMD (it detected corrupted files but didn’t fix them). I’m not sure what else to try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I fixed the problem. To see the details, click display settings, pick "make everything bigger," set a value above 100%, restart your PC, then return to the standard size. This resolved the issue for me.

Sometimes it works at times and fails others. There are many online discussions about broken uwp icons when you search or just encounter issues, with various fixes suggested. It could be helpful if this resolves the matter now, but otherwise... it's not a major concern unless it impacts icons while searching for uwp apps. This tends to happen because third-party image viewers load too many extensions, and one of them is used for icons. So far, it's a rare issue I chose not to tackle after spending a lot of time on it. Most solutions are temporary until the user reinstalls their preferred image viewer or software. It might also be related to system settings, possibly a Windows bug that Microsoft could address in 2024.

I understand, I spent a lot of time looking for solutions before sharing this here. Microsoft needs to improve this. Also, with many videos or images in one folder, Windows creates thumbnails but sometimes they disappear unexpectedly. Since I store my media on the HDD, it takes a long time for them to regenerate. This seems like another issue.

I also saw an unusual icon for Spotify. Turns out it was the start menu icon, but it appeared on the taskbar. When the icon problem shows up on the taskbar, simply opening the Start menu usually resolves it.
