You're curious about why you can't upgrade to the latest preview updates now, especially since you were an insider before build 10240. It sounds like the preview updates for build 10565 are still pending or restricted for your access level. I’d suggest checking with the support team or looking into any eligibility requirements that might apply to you.

@ Elzix Open Command Prompt via Start -> Run and enter “cmd”. On the Command Prompt, type “net stop wuauserv”. This stops the Windows automatic update service so we can remove the cache files. Next, in the same prompt, type “cd /d %windir%” or “cd\windows”. Then run “rd /s SoftwareDistribution”. That completes the process.

I just talked to Microsoft support and to be honest, I've never heard anything like that before. If you perform a clean install of Windows 10, you lose all the insider features permanently and it can't be undone. So anyone with an insider build should never do a clean install ever! It looks like Microsoft is too big to handle things properly. Thanks for your help, but it seems like all the effort might not pay off.

I didn't experience that at all. I performed a clean install, then recently re-joined the insider preview after using the retail version for a long time. The insider build requires some time to arrive, so I had to wait and check for updates multiple times before receiving it.

I believe there was a misunderstanding. You can perform a clean install and connect to the Insider program, but if you just installed Windows 10, you must wait for your update to activate. After enabling Insider builds, restart your computer and ensure you have a Microsoft account linked to the program (https://insider.windows.com/). You must also be at least 18 years old.
