Issue with video quality during gaming when FPS decreases and VRR is active.
Hello everyone, I just bought an LG B5 OLED and have run into a problem. When the frame rate drops, the TV briefly loses signal. I've tried changing the HDMI cable to one rated for HDMI 2.1, but that didn't fix it. The only solution that seems to work is turning off VRR on AMD Adrenalin. I still want VRR enabled because of the tearing issues, so I'm looking for a more affordable alternative. My specs are: Ryzen 7 5800x, RX 6800 XT, 32 GB RAM.
I bought a monitor with VRR via HDMI that also experienced a comparable problem. I returned it before fully identifying the cause. Because its symptoms match yours now, I think it’s the same issue. I made sure VRR was turned on, but the problems persisted.
Adjusted color depth from 12 or 10 bits to 8 bits. No visual change, but black displays will be affected.
I just checked it out, but it seems to not fix the problem. I tried every color depth setting.
You mentioned past HDMI specifications and versions. Adjusting the color depth fixed the black screens on your TV. Using quality cables also helped. Your PC was about 5 meters from the TV, and only certain cables worked to reduce the issue. The Club3D HDMI cable helped initially, but switching to 8-bit color depth fully resolved the problem. You might want to check if an enhanced color setting is enabled—this worked for my older TV when using 4K60, and now your current TV runs in game mode at 4K120Hz consistently.
HDMI 2.1 6.6ft cable used. Color depth isn't solving the problem. Not sure how to adjust settings for better color. The best fix so far is turning off VRR/Freesync premium. Unfortunately, I'll have to stick with that for now.
