Issue with Verizon Wireless speed delays Latency challenges affecting connectivity
Hello. I recently bought a Pixel 4a with 5G and have experienced strange latency spikes and packet loss. Before that, I used a Moto Z3 for tethering but wanted an upgrade. The connection speed seems better now, but gaming is nearly impossible due to odd ping spikes and almost total disconnection. I'm reaching out for advice—maybe someone else has faced the same issue. I can test on another machine after updating this one to check if it's the problem. This issue appears in: Battlefield 4/5, Discord calls and streams, Twitch live streams, Minecraft, and most other online games. Here’s a pingplotter graph linked to Google via IPv4.
You're relying on your Pixel 4a with 5G connectivity and cellular data for PC internet. Are you connected via a cellular 5G signal or something different? If it's cellular data, I wouldn't be surprised. Latency will rise based on how many other users are using the network at the same time.
I'm using a 4G connection with full data access. The network traffic remains stable despite changes in population density, which is typical for rural areas. According to my understanding, the main updates were a phone upgrade and Windows installation. Note: I'm also connected via USB to my PC, as specified.
The app simply provides your phone with the necessary details to evaluate the tower and enable carrier services, but it doesn't alter speed. Possible interference might be causing the issue. I'd look for an app that shows signal strength, like "network cell info lite," and anything below -118dBm is likely to create problems.
I just got a fresh sim for testing, but it seems to be struggling. The cell info shows about -110dBm, which isn’t too bad before. I mentioned it was fine at first, but using a friend’s iPhone on Verizon worked just okay.
