It could be that the ISO is around 3.1GB, and you're thinking it's "sandick."
The bootable drive will use a special file system designed for installation and operation.
Most boot drive makers will format the disk for you, so don't worry about it
Connect via USB, proceed step by step until reaching a menu offering Update and Custom (Advanced). Choose Custom, pick your boot drive, press Delete (once chosen you can't revert), choose New, label the disk, then begin installation.
