Issue with turbo performance not functioning correctly.
The turbo boost on my laptop isn't functioning as expected. It's a Dell Inspiron 5559 with an Intel 6260u CPU. The base clock is 1.8GHz, turbo clock is supposed to be 2.9GHz, but I'm only seeing up to 2.0GHz regardless of settings. I confirmed the turbo boost is enabled in the UEFI and power saving mode is set to maximum performance. My other Dell laptop with an Intel 8250u shows the turbo boost works fine. I've searched online but haven't found a solution. What could be causing this issue?
you're checking the performance of the cpu under different conditions. the turbo clock you see applies only to a single core. when all cores are stressed, the maximum clock drops. intel and amd both use this approach, though it's not ideal. intel's turbo is temporary, boosting briefly before dropping again. the specs indicate dual-core turbo should be around 2.7, but you're not seeing that. after downloading intel xtu and running the stress test, see if it highlights thermal, power, or voltage limits.
That appears typical. It's warm but not high enough to trigger thermal throttling.
