Hello everyone! I recently purchased a RAM package (2 for 8) matching the exact same model as before—Ripjaws v3200, CL 16-18-18-38, 32GB. I installed it in all four slots and configured the XMP profile to 3200 with settings 16-18-18-38 and 25600. Unfortunately, my computer wouldn’t start. I lowered the voltage to 2933 and it finally booted up, even when running games and software. It seems there might be an issue with the RAM slot itself. After checking, I found that only the 1-2-4 order worked in XMP mode. The stress tests still caused it to shut down. I tried different timings and voltages, but with three slots it still couldn’t reach 3000MHz. My question is: why isn’t the third slot functioning at the advertised speeds? Could it be a contact oxide problem, or is cleaning the slot enough? I’m not sure about all the details, but thank you for your help!

Yep, welcome to Ryzen. Quad Rank (4 stick config) on Ryzen is insanely hard to run at 3200MHz especially at the tighter 16-18-18 timing. Input the speed and timings manually and then change the DRAM Voltage up to something like 1.37-1.4, and turn on Gear Down mode in the BIOS as well. @RONOTHAN## might be interested in troubleshooting this too.

Quad rank on consumer sites is consistently 4 sticks, though this doesn't always mean true quad rank. I'd be surprised if the platform actually achieves it. There seems to be a problem with Samsung-based sticks being misidentified as defective when they're actually working. You might find a mix of one die and another, for example. Check the labels carefully—they should display a code with an IC number. It usually starts with "04" and ends with something like "810B". Make sure all codes match; inconsistencies could cause compatibility issues.
