I've updated both computers and configured the shared folder in both settings and action menus. However, neither device can detect the other during file sharing attempts. The machines are connected to the same local wired network.

Yes, a standard shared folder typically functions properly.

It seems the system has persistent networking problems despite updates and repairs. Occasionally it connects to other devices, but often it fails to establish a stable connection.

Verify both devices aren't labeled as public network connections. This can be confirmed by navigating to Settings > Network & Internet, where the status indicator will clarify whether it's on a public or private network. Near Share operates via Bluetooth rather than traditional wireless settings.

They seem to be private, but I'll verify when I get back.

Discovered a fix and shared it for future reference. Navigated to Windows Features via "Turn Windows features on or off," went down to the SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing section, enabled "SMB 1.0/CIFS Client," and confirmed the Server was active, not the client.
