Issue with the RTX 3060 not booting properly after intermittent failures.
Hello, I recently got a RTX 3060 (MSI VENTUS RTX 3060 12GB 2X OC) for daily use, but the GPU keeps having POST problems. I’ve tried several solutions found online, but the issue persists every day. Key problems: - The PC powers on cold and freezes at the VGA stage (checked via EZ-LED) - No display output, connected to a single monitor via HDMI - All fans spin normally, no fan noise during max speed - No sound from fans despite GPU activity. I’ve tested fixes like updating BIOS, running NVIDIA updates for DisplayPort, using different RAM sticks, and even swapping the card to Slot 2. The problem still comes back after a few days. Other steps: removed one RAM stick per guide, updated motherboard firmware, changed graphics drivers, and checked power draw and temps (within safe limits). Replacing the 3060 with a 1070 helped, but not the original. I’m open to suggestions on what might be causing this.
It seems this might be challenging, but I’m curious—have you attempted any of these steps? If not, feel free to give them a try:
- Set PCIE to 3.0 in BIOS (it’s often auto)
- Adjust CSM settings, turning it off if active or on if inactive
- Update VBIOS as a final option
- Disable Erp Ready in BIOS
- Recharge CMOS battery for about 15 minutes while unplugging the PSU
Hi, I tried these today but the card didn’t post properly. The motherboard stayed attached to the VGA light. I used my 1050 board to test and managed to get a display working. The PC boots fine with the 3060 but doesn’t show up in Device Manager, GPU-Z or Talk Manager. In Device Manager it says not connected, though power is coming. I changed the BIOS version down to an older release (before 6232) because it’s marked as beta. No improvement. I flipped CSM settings both ways, set PCI to Gen 3 on all slots, but nothing changes. Fans spin and the display port lights up when connected, but the monitor turns off right away. I haven’t found a working BIOS for this card yet, so I switched it to my 1070 just to make it usable temporarily. The 3060 is a refurb from eBay, but looks poorly made—there’s a missing screw on the PCB and the PCB itself has a slight sag. I pressed down on the backplate to give pads more grip, but still nothing. Updated notes: Windows can boot and reach login, but no display output. The diagnostic LED stays lit on the motherboard. The problem goes away if I use an older GPU as a display, though the card still doesn’t show up in Windows even after using DDU.
