Hello, I recently switched my CPU from i3 8100 3.6 gHZ(4 cores) to i5 9400 2,9 gHZ(6 cores). My problem is that when i switched to my new CPU, my PC has been performing way worse than before. My motherboard is ASUS PRIME H310M-K, and yes the sockets are the same, so it fits. Also another problem is that when i check online and on the box of the CPU, it says that there are 6 total cores, and when i go to task manager it says there are 4 cores. Does anyone have any type of idea on how i can fix this performance problem and if you do, i will be awaiting a respone. Thank you and have a nice day!

Was die CPU für die Funktion auf dieser Platte eine BIOS-Aktualisierung benötigt, hast du sie noch installiert?

The BIOS and CPU-Z list it as the correct CPU.

Ensure your motherboard isn't limiting active cores and that Hyperthreading is activated. Restart the BIOS to refresh defaults.

Installed CPU-Z successfully, and it works fine. The BIOS is also functioning properly.

Review the BIOS to verify all cores are activated as mentioned before. You also noticed an unusual Windows setting or option that someone discussed on the forum last week—remembering it’s not something I’ve encountered before. Despite having just four cores, the performance shouldn’t be significantly impacted, which makes me suspect another issue is at play. Have you looked at the temperatures as well?

Open msconfig, navigate to the Boot section and click Advanced options... Then ensure the Number of processors check is unchecked. Click OK and restart your computer. This instructs Windows to detect all available cores and threads.

You haven't looked at the temperature readings yet. What can I help you with?
