Hi, I recently assembled my first computer and everything has generally worked well. During gaming, I noticed the screen would go black randomly and then restart after a short time. I believe this might be related to driver problems, since I used the old SSD from my previous machine as the boot device. Now I see many recommendations to start completely from scratch to prevent compatibility issues.

I’m wondering if using the 'Reset This PC' option in the Windows recovery settings is similar to installing a fresh Windows installation from a USB drive.

I’ve kept an eye on the GPU temperatures, which are normal. The issue also occurred when the temperature was low, so it doesn’t seem connected to heat.

I’ve tried uninstalling all drivers, reinstalling the latest ones, and even used DDU to remove the display driver, but the problem still persists.

Additionally, I noticed my motherboard’s BIOS was last updated in August. I haven’t upgraded it to the latest version and am unsure whether it’s necessary.

Would it be best to proceed with the Reset This PC option, and would that be equivalent to a full system reinstall?

Restarting your PC allows you to carry out a fresh setup and update of Windows without losing your personal information or major settings. In certain situations, this process can enhance your device's speed, safety, online browsing, and power efficiency.

It's similar to trying to foresee the future. You probably won't understand until you attempt it.

I already checked many online sources. The reason I brought it up here is to confirm if the reset acts like a complete reinstall, as most guides suggest doing this when finishing a PC from a USB drive.

If the operating system ran smoothly on the previous PC and again on the new one, it suggests that compatible drivers were automatically installed during the first boot in the new system, with the exception of the video driver which is showing black screens because of a faulty installation. You only need to update the latest driver and that should resolve the main problem.

I would start by addressing the video issue before considering more extreme steps like a full reset, which would reinstall the OS or install the proper Microsoft drivers from the Windows setup. But why reinstall all drivers that are already functional, especially a Microsoft video driver that you shouldn’t want?

The blank screen indicates problems with the video driver. The first thing to do is download and run the driver installer.

GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

Another possibility is to insert the DVD that came with the video card, let it auto-play, and install the driver, although it might already be outdated.

By the way, I’m not confident using third-party driver installers like DDU since they don’t always detect outdated versions, and you never know what might have been installed or left out. Given how the display goes blank, it’s clear the application failed there.

I wouldn't have kept the previous SSD without updating and beginning with a new setup. I did that during my latest build and faced no problems. The short time I spent reinstalling programs is far preferable to troubles with compatibility or hardware changes. A fresh install completely solved the issue.

Yeah forgot to mention in the post but I installed the latest drivers whilst deleting the old one in Device Manager. Still seems to be conflicting with the old drivers even after using DDU which didn't work as you said.
I don't have a DVD player in the pc either so not sure what to do with the disk.
I have other problems with the system randomly trying to boot onto my M.2 drive that only has games on it too and I think it's also a compatibility issue as I have to boot with CSM turned on with boot override to select the right drive randomly. So that's why I think maybe resetting the PC and starting fresh as I should've originally done might be the best idea.
