Issue with the latest 16:10 display on your laptop
HI everyone . i bought the legion 5 pro yestorday that have 16\10 inch screen . the laptop preformance are great but only one thing bothering me , when i buy this laptop i heard its adding extra screen in top with 16/10 res, but after playing and testing the screen in some games like world of warcraft and GTA IV i find out its also cutting the view in both sides left and right , instead of showing them as normal + adding extra more view in the top. i tested it with 2 laptop my old one that have 15/4 and the new one that have 16/10, and i will add pic as example with the results. to do it i log out in exactly the same position in both laptops to see what is the view its show me . the first pic is from the 15/4 screen the second is from the new 16/10 screen. anyone can tell me how to fix that ? or if its even posible to fix it that it will show everything + extra view on top?its feeling atm like i back to the resolution of old CRT screens that use to be 4/3. since im thinking to return back the new laptop du to this problem . thanks for the help.
The issue lies with the game itself, not the laptop. Certain titles trim the surplus area to prevent players from exploiting the 16:10 aspect ratio for an edge, while others include it. This varies by game.
16:10 displays are not built for gaming. Their purpose is to support work tasks.
I appreciate your backing the optimal aspect ratio! But it hasn't really taken off, so you'll need to adapt. There might be some workarounds, though if using them feels like cheating (lol), I wouldn't suggest it. These tools are built to maximize screen space, not just for niche markets—it's not widely embraced for general use. Maybe 21:9 is the ideal fit? Let me know!
Sw solution refers to a specific type of software or method used for troubleshooting. If you need help returning the computer, let me know and I’ll guide you through the process.
In fact, there are many potential solutions for this issue. One option mentioned is the Steam support page, which may help with certain games. However, if your game includes anti-cheat measures, using those fixes could lead to problems. I wouldn’t rely on third-party tools unless you’re comfortable trying them. A laptop with a standard aspect ratio might be a better long-term choice, though it could still require some adjustments. Permanent fixes are usually difficult and not guaranteed to work across all titles. Some methods, like Nvidia resolution scaling, might also be worth exploring.
