The model of the external SSD is the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 1TB. It supports up to 1050 MB/s read speed and 1,000MB/s write speed using NVMe technology on a USB-C port. The device is rated IP65 for dust and water resistance and includes updated firmware. When the computer boots, it initially works but later stops being recognized, showing a notification. In the Device Manager, an error appears regarding something. Restarting the computer seems to resolve the issue. This appears to be related to the USB controller, port compatibility, or the external SSD itself.

I agree with OU, probably a bad connection somewhere. Try a different port on the PC, then a different (high capacity) cable, then clean the port on the enclosure, then you're down to ripping apart the SSD where you can pull the drive and install it directly into the PC to verify that it isn't dying.

Also, it might be the computer shutting down the USB connection. Look under Power options, then plan settings, advanced power options, USB suspend, and turn it off.

Tried another cable—USB A to C on the SSD instead of C to C—and it worked right away. Let's see if it stays that way. I hadn't considered swapping the cables since they're all new 10Gbps models, while my others are slower at 500Mbps. Thanks for the assistance!

Consider testing it with various USB connections on your computer, including the front and rear ports.

Wires fail. It's strange yet accurate.
