Yesterday I used my PC and suddenly the screen went black, I heard a USB disconnect/connect sound, then it came back. This has never happened before. After updating my GPU drivers I thought outdated ones were the cause, but now I’m questioning if this meant the PCIe slot was struggling to connect with the GPU and the motherboard might be failing. Please advise.

Unless it keeps happening, don't worry, there are many possible reasons and very few that indicate a problem.

Inspect the monitor cable.
It seems the connection is probably loose and has been disconnected.
